TROY WATSON - Youth Minister
Troy grew up in Bertram, TX and attended Burnet high school where he graduated in 1997.  After high school he attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where he studied Sports Medicine and worked with the Islander athletic teams.  During his freshman year of college, while attending a youth camp near Leaky, TX, he surrendered his life to Christ and began his Christian journey.  At that point, God began preparing Troy for how he would be used in the future for His kingdom.

As Troy began to mature in his faith, he began to sense God’s call on his life for ministry.  After serving in many ministries during college including the Baptist Student Ministry, T Bar M Sports Camp and a short period of time as the interim youth pastor at First Baptist-Corpus Christi, Troy moved to Lincoln, NE to pursue a masters degree in athletic administration.  After completing his master’s degree, he began working full-time as an athletic trainer at The University of Nebraska.  While in Lincoln, Troy was also engaged in the college/young adult’s ministry with Calvary Community Church.  Beginning the summer of ’05, he began serving as an intern at Calvary Community Church where he co-lead the college ministry and lead the 20 something single’s ministry.
During his last year living in Nebraska, God began prompting Troy that the time had come for him to begin pursuing full-time ministry.  Troy’s passion is for young people and he believes that their teen years play a pivotal role in their future as Christ followers.  His desire is that all youth involved with a ministry would graduate high school with a healthy, engaged and passionate relationship with their savior.

Troy currently resides on the couches and floors of his old college friends who have graciously opened their homes to him.  Troy’s fiancé, Kate, is living in Lincoln, NE until August 6th  when she moves to Corpus Christi.  They will be getting married October 7th in Lincoln and if Kate isn’t comfortable sleeping on Troy’s old college friend’s floor, they will likely get a place of their own.  Troy has an older sister (Lynnet) and a younger bother (Thomas) who both live in San Antonio.  Lynnet is married to Matt and has three boys. (She just had twin boys a few weeks ago to add to the 20 month old).  Thomas is a junior mechanical engineering   major at UTSA.

CHOIR NOTES
Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!
1) To you, the members of the CBC adult choir for taking me & Kathy into your “fold”. We are having a great time with a terrific group of folks. You are doing an excellent job of leading all of us in worship each week! Thank you for your faithfulness as we have moved into the summer. Who would have believed we could have a full choir loft in June? What a blessing! However, don’t quit now. We need you each and every Wednesday and Sunday that you are not gone on vacation.
2) To the members of the praise team & band, for making it so easy to plan and lead worship. You are all so talented and cooperative. CBC  is so fortunate to have such quality people.
3)And to the entire CBC church ‘family’ and Bro. Jack for making us feel right at home here. Your acceptance and responsiveness, as we come together to worship our Lord, has given me great freedom in planning varied types of music for our services. Thank you for being such a loving fellowship.
Of course, I can’t miss an opportunity to invite any one of you who has ever thought about singing in a choir to give us a try! We have a great time together making music to the Lord. We’re not perfect - just willing to be used. How about it? Won’t you join us?

YOUTH PAGE
Youth Camp 2006 - Please pray for our youth and sponsors as they head to camp on July 3-7.  They will be attending Wild Week Camp at Leakey, Texas.
Note from Troy -
I can’t explain how excited I am to be here with the Calallen Baptist Church family.  As I begin to work with the youth here, I pray that God will take hold of their hearts and grow them into passionate Christ followers.  One thing that I have learned during my own Christian walk is the importance of an encouraging, supporting Christian family.  Whether you believe it or not, the young people in this church will be impacted by YOU!!!  Think back to when you were in junior high or high school.  I know that may be a little further back for some than others, but does someone come to mind that had a dramatic influence on your life?  Chances are, that particular person never knew the impact they had on you.  Make up your mind today to be a Godly role model for the students around you.  They desperately need it and in some cases, eternity hangs in the balance.  Thanks for all you do for the Kingdom.

PASTOR'S PAGE
The Great Martian Zapper! - I just finished reading the book, ‘War of the Worlds,’ by H.G. Wells.  I enjoyed it greatly.  I can certainly understand why it was a best seller in its day, and why it has become a classic in our own.
However, it only took a few turns of the page to discover some very out of date thinking.  For instance, in this fictional classic, Martian invaders attack the earth.
Martian invaders!  I was wondering who started that whole “Martian” genre.  We can blame it on H.G. Wells.
Not to worry -- after much scientific data, telescoping, and planet probing, it has become obvious that no life on Mars exists.  So, we can scratch off Martian invaders from our list of fears.
A couple of years ago, Hollywood produced a modern film version of ‘War of the Worlds.’  It is similar to the book, but with obvious modern tweaking.  Instead of Martians, for example, the enemy is an unidentified species of hostile space invaders bent on the conquest of earth.
Unfortunately, God is also tweaked out of the modern movie version.  Man and bacteria are the saviors in the movie.  God’s name is not mentioned except as an expletive.  Actually, there seems to be no attempt of any character in the movie to turn to God for help at any point in the film.
In the book, things are different.  Bacteria plague the Martians, but by God’s design.  In fact, as the storyline develops, people pray, scriptures are quoted, and when the evil Martians are defeated, God is given the praise.  (How about that!)
It would seem that while the modern film version updated the enemy, all the while it deleted the glory, majesty, and power of God.
Personally, I’ll take the advice of scripture: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord” (Psalm 20:7).   In God We Still Trust,   Pastor Jack
