DRINKING FROM MY SAUCER
I've never made a fortune and it's probably too late now, But I don't worry about that much, I'm happy anyhow. And as I go along life's way, I'm reaping better than I sow, I'm drinking from my saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.

Haven't got a lot of riches and sometimes the going's tough, but I've go loving ones around me and that makes me rich enough. I thank God for His blessings and the mercies He's bestowed, I'm drinking from my saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.

O, remember times when things went wrong; my faith wore somewhat thin. But all at once the dark clouds broke and sun peeped through again. So Lord, help me not to gripe about the tough rows that I've hoed, I'm drinking from my saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.

If God gives me strength and courage when the way grows steep and rough, I'll not ask for other blessings, I'm already blessed enough. And my I never be too busy to help others bear their loads, then I'll keep drinking from my saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.  - Author Unknown.

HOME RUN SUNDAY
Home Run Sunday was a GRAND SLAM!!! Thanks so much to all those who participated in Homerun Sunday.  It was a great day of celebrating Sunday School, and with your commitment, we were able to surpass our goal of 201, with 218 in attendance!!!!!  Hallelujah!  Currently we average 150 per month in Sunday School.  In order to have 201 as our average by this time next year, all we have to do is add 5 people to Sunday School each month in 2007. Just 5, that’s all!  Is there anything that prevents us from doing that?
This week I revisited part of the Great Commission, Matthew 28:20, which although a major missional passage, also stresses the importance of education.  In Matthew 20, Jesus tells his disciples that they shall be “teaching them (the new disciples) to obey everything that I have commanded you” (NRSV) This tells me that religious education is important to Jesus.  But notice, the disciples were not just told to teach them to know all that I have commanded you, but to “obey.”  As we study God’s word, let’s apply it to our lives, living it each day, as a testimony to who our Lord Jesus Christ really is, and to the difference He has made in our lives.  Let’s learn all that Christ has for us, not just for head knowledge, but so that we can be His disciples in our world.
CBC has many opportunities to be equipped for living a life of discipleship each week:  Sunday School, Sunday Night Life, Wednesday Night Bible Study, and the Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study.  But, one thing is certain, all the Bible studies in the world will not make any difference, if you do not take advantage of them.  So, plug in to one of these opportunities this week, and make yourself available to be equipped for life as a disciple of Jesus.
Christ’s love, Carol Lindquist Minister of Education

CDC NEWS
How to Build Self-Esteem - I believe that if I have high expectations for each child, he willachieve those expectations and internalize them. Conversely, if I don't expect much out of them, they won't accomplish much and will believe that they're not capable of much. I think the best way to build self-esteem is to EMPOWER my friends. - Make it obvious to anyone who enters the room that each child is a valued and important member of the class (it is most important to make this obvious to each child!) - Celebrate all successes, great and small - Listen to children. Honor what they say. - Show respect, don't demand it. - Positive builds; negative destroys. - Children should see themselves reflected in the classroom (from the children in posters to the language on the walls to the food in the dramatic play kitchen to the photos in the class book.) - Focus on what a child can do, not what he can't do. Build on the 'cans'. - Make sure all adults who work with the children have the same high expectations. - Create an environment of safety and respect so that children are able to safely take risks and grow.

YOUTH PAGE
Some very exciting things are on the calendar for the youth group in the future.  We will be continuing through our teaching schedule on Wednesday nights covering topics that every teenager needs to know.  Thus far we have spent four weeks covering two topics:  Authentic Faith and Spiritual disciplines.  So, we have five more topics before we wrap up this particular series.  We will cover them during the month of November and the first week in December.  On the evening of Sunday November 5th , I will be unveiling the location and dates of our 2007 summer camp.  On December 13th, we will be having our youth Christmas party.   We will be kicking off the New Year (January 1-2) with our first senior retreat.  This will be a time for our soon-to-be graduating students to get a taste of life after high school.  A campus minister will be joining us to give us a preview of what to expect when our students move on from high school and into college classes, jobs or both.  Many things will be changing in their lives and this will be an opportunity to learn about ways they can get plugged in to a Christian ministry wherever God takes them.  The exact time and location will be announced soon.  Please keep us in your prayers as we look forward.
Here are a couple of verses that spoke to me recently.  I hope that the truths here will somehow speak to you as well.  Thank you for all that you do.  Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning;  Great is Your faithfulness.  “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” Lamentations 3:22-24

PASTOR'S PAGE
November 1st says to my taste buds – “Gentleman, start your engines.”  I can hardly wait for turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, giblet gravy, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie.  Yummy!

I do believe that by now we all recognize November as a time when we count our blessings.  Certainly, we have a great deal for which to be thankful.  However, Ron Clark’s Rule #11 added another dimension to this particular season.

Ron Clark is an educator who wanted to make a difference in the classroom.  In doing so, he wrote a book listing the 55 essential rules for discovering the successful student in every child.  While all 55 rules are powerful and thought provoking, it was Rule 11 that caught my attention:   'Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness. Go out of your way to do something surprisingly kind and generous for someone at least once a month.'
(Ron Clark. The Essential 55. New York; Hyperion, 2003)
I don’t know about you, but this sounds a whole lot like something God’s people ought to be doing.  Just imagine Rule 11 incorporated into the fabric of our church lives – each one of us performing some random act of kindness once a month.  Rule 11 just might possibly  help us to discover the successful Christian in every child of God.
After all, God did not call us to sit around and count our blessings as much as command us to go and be a blessing!   A Do Gooder,
Pastor Jack
