CHOIR NOTES
Our
adult choir is made up of the greatest bunch of folks anyone could ever work
with. (Oops, I dangled a
participle!) The people in it are
fun-loving, yet hard-working – ready to take on any challenge thrown at them
(Obviously, since they put up with me!).
When I came on, I told them that I wanted the choir to sing a special
every Sunday, and they have risen to the challenge.
And I believe their contributions have made a real difference in our
worship experiences! So, to our
choir, I say, “Thank you for what you are doing each and every week in service
to our Lord and His church here at CBC! Keep
up the good work!”
One additional word of thanks is due to our praise team.
These folks are in their places each and every week doing an excellent
job of leading us in worship. Their
varied talents and gifts all blend together in such a wonderful way that working
with them is so easy. So I say,
“Thanks to each of you for all you do!”
Our Christmas rehearsals are going extremely well.
We have an added 10 or 12 folks meeting with us on Wednesdays to sing in
this year’s musical. It’s
exciting to see our choir room nearly full each week.
But I must hasten to say – there is always room for more.
So if you’ve been thinking about singing with us, come on; now is a
great time to join. We rehearse at
7:30 p.m., each Wednesday, in the choir room, which is directly behind the choir
loft in the Sanctuary. The Christmas
portion lasts till about 8:00 p.m., and the rest of the rehearsal concludes at
8:45 p.m.

DEACONS
CORNER
It does not seem like a year has past since the last deacon election, but
time waits for nobody. I just wish that it would not speed up concurrent to the
number of years that God has blessed each of us with (you younger folks will
soon understand this phenomenon). Regardless, it is the season for the newly
elected deacons to come on board. It is also time for the new officers to be
elected.
In the past two years,
I have served as the Vice-Chairman and then as the Chairman of the Deacon Body.
It has been a privilege bestowed by God through you, the members of Calallen
Baptist Church. I cannot find the words to tell you what this has meant to me. I
can truthfully say that the confidence you give to each deacon in his service to
God is held in high esteem. Each man develops his own deacon ministry, thereby
walking his own path with God. Without your support, it is a path that is
difficult to cut. I thank you as your Brother in Christ for the opportunity to
serve God in this capacity.
As the new deacons and
officers take their leadership roles, I pray that your continued support will be
offered. Never hesitate to tell the deacons how they can better serve your
needs. A deacon can only grow his ministry as far as the need allows. From
there, it is up to each man to discern what he gives back to God and His Church.
The word “deacon” is not a title. It is a directive to serve.
Calallen Baptist Church
has weathered some tough times. God has a way of closing doors. When He does, He
opens the next one. It may take time to see that the new door is a better
portal, but it will always be just that. Our church is on a horizon, one that
only God knows of its beauty and glory. Trust Him, for He desires each of us to
see it. He has placed us (be it a life time member or a new member) in this
church because He knows where He wants Calallen Baptist Church and who He wants
serving. It is up to each of us to hear His call clearly, to serve it
appropriately, and most of all…never doubt it. Your servant in Christ,
Ken Talley Phil 4:13

The Power of Influence - A
lot of times we hear about the influence we are having on the lost people in the
world. And it’s true, we should be
concerned about that, but it seems that scripture makes it clear that there is
more to it than that. It seems we
need to come to the understanding that, as followers of Christ, our influence on
the lost world begins with the influence we have on each other here, within our
own church family. By that I’m
talking about the church. The writer
of Hebrews spoke of our relationships with other believers.
Look at these couple of verses and think about it.
Let
us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good
deeds.
Hebrews 10:23-24
I
wonder what a group of people who took this seriously would look like?
What type of influence could they have on each other that, in turn, would
flow into our communities? Have you
ever thought about how you could “spur on” one of your brothers or sisters
in Christ? We live in a time where
all we want to know is what a church can do for us.
We hear people say things like “I don’t really get anything out of
it.” We get this perspective that
church is all about me, myself, and I. Have
you ever thought that you have just as much to offer this church family as it
has to offer you? And it needs you
to use what you have to influence us to be more like our Savior.
It wouldn’t take long to find someone who is discouraged, hurting and
lonely within our own congregation. Maybe
God is going to use you to spur them on toward love and good deeds.
The influence you have on those around you may be stronger than you
think. After all, that is why we
call it the power of influence. Thank
you for all your love and support. I
couldn’t imagine having to go through life without it. Troy

PASTOR'S PAGE
Our
Key Leadership Summit was exciting, revealing, and challenging.
We ended the meeting with all fifty-one attendees standing together in a
symbolic gesture of commitment to our church’s future and core values.
Using the words of Johnny Howard: “We became as committed as the hog is
to bacon.”
After the conference, I asked Fred Ater, our
conference facilitator, the following question:
“What word from God do you have for us – post-conference?”
Almost without
hesitation, he answered with a challenge to PERSEVERE!
“Every mountain has its valley,” Fred continued.
He was conveying that dreams are not fulfilled overnight, but take time
and patience.
Reminds me of the story
of Florence Chadwick, the first woman to swim the English Channel in both
directions. On the Fourth of July in 1951, she attempted to swim from Catalina
Island to the California coast. The challenge was not so much the distance; the
challenge was the bone-chilling waters of the Pacific. To complicate matters, a
dense fog lay over the entire area, making it impossible for her to see land.
After about 15 hours in the water, and within a half mile of her goal, Chadwick
gave up. Later she told a reporter, “Look, I’m not excusing myself. But if I
could have seen land, I might have made it.” Not long afterward she attempted
the feat again. Once more a misty veil obscured the coastline and she couldn’t
see the shore. But this time she made it because she kept reminding herself that
land was there. With that confidence she bravely swam on and achieved her goal.
How will we be able to PERSEVERE?
1). Depend
on God’s power.
We are debt free. We have
experienced financial growth. We
have witnessed the beginnings of a missions endeavor.
We have seen key people added to our fellowship.
All these things have been by an act of God.
No doubt but that He wants to do the same in the future.
2). Guard
our commitments to CBC’s vision.
Our future achievements are dependent on a singular direction. 3).
Achieve
through ‘togetherness’
– protect it!
Remember, by
perseverance
the snail reached the Ark.
