CAROL LINDQUIST- Education Minister
Carol was born in Yoakum, Texas, and grew up in El Campo, Texas, where her
parents and one of her sisters still reside.
When she was 12, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a revival
at First Baptist Church, in El Campo, Texas.
She graduated with Honors from El Campo High School in 1980, and then
moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to attend Del Mar College.
In 1983, Carol received an Associate in Applied Science degree in Legal
Assisting from Del Mar.
Following graduation, Carol returned to El Campo and worked as a Legal
Secretary/Legal Assistant in law firms in Wharton and Matagorda counties.
When she was 25 she met Joe Lindquist, who swept her off of her feet.
The following year they were married, and will have been happily married
18 years on October 29, 2006.
Shortly after their marriage, Carol returned to college to pursue her
bachelor’s degree and become a teacher. In
1992, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (English) (Magna Cum
Laude) from the University of Houston, Victoria, Texas.
She also received her Teaching Certificate the same year.
Carol has taught high school English, all levels, as well as,
pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
She has taught at Tidehaven High School, Moody High School, Orange Grove
High School, Sandia Christian Academy, and Arlington Heights Christian School,
as well as, substitute teaching in other surrounding districts.
In addition to teaching professionally, Carol has also been involved in the
education ministry of every church she has joined. She has been involved with Vacation Bible School since she
was a teenager, and has also taught Sunday School, served as Youth Director, and
taught other assorted Bible Studies, as called upon.
In 1996, God blessed Joe and Carol with their son, Seth. Seth is a 4th grader in Orange Grove I.S.D., and
he is the joy of Joe and Carol’s lives.
On April 13, 2000, Carol accepted God’s call to ministry at First Baptist
Church, Sandia, Texas. The church
acknowledged her calling, licensed her, and called her as Minister of Education
and Youth. For five years she
served in that capacity and as Minister of Students in Sandia.
Currently,
Carol is in the last year of work on her Master of Divinity degree, which she
will receive through Logsdon Theological Seminary at South Texas School of
Christian Studies, in Corpus Christi, in May 2007. She also serves on the board of Mission Corpus Christi.
Carol’s passions are education/discipleship and missions.
She believes that they are essential in the 21st century
church, and looks forward to serving Calallen Baptist as their Minister of
Education.

SUNDAY NIGHT
LIFE
For Men & Women
His Heart in You & Me -
Join
Pastor Jack Willoughby for a study that will help you discover what would happen
if for one day and one night, Jesus lived your life with his heart? Your
heart gets the day off, and your life is led by the heart of Christ. Watch
His priorities govern your actions, His passions drive your decisions, and His
love direct your behavior.
(Based upon the book “Just Like Jesus” by Max Lucado). 6 sessions
Sept. 10th - Oct. 15th.
Building a Healthy Temple for God -
The
Bible tells us that our bodies
are
temples
of the Holy Spirit and that we should honor God with them.
I Cor. 6:19-20. Come join us as we journey together to improve the
condition of our temples. Topics to be addressed---healthy cooking and
eating habits, disease prevention, and the benefits of physical exercise. An
ongoing group, beginning Sept. 10th.
The Prodigal...God's Grace & Our Need of Grace -
Christ’s
story of the Prodigal Son is perhaps one of His most remembered parables.
Why attend this study? Because we,
like the prodigal son,
are in need of repenting and coming home. These sessions
are intended to rebuke, correct and lead us back to our Father. Through this
study Pastor Jack Willoughby will apply this timeless message to help all of us
come home! (Based on the study written by Robert AuBuchon)
6 sessions Oct. 22nd -
Dec. 3rd.
For Men ONLY
Authentic Manhood...Winning at Work & Home -
Challenging
men to step
forward, meet their
responsibilities, and
establish their manhood,
‘Authentic
Manhood,
Winning
at Work & Home’
focuses on the chief responsibilities men have--as husbands, fathers, and
breadwinners. The study presents 2 mirrors to help men evaluate how they are
doing in life: the
mirror of work and career, and the mirror of home and family.
Participants will evaluate chief responsibilities of how a man successfully
relates to a woman and how a man rightly engages in his work. Here is a plan for
leading men to win in life by helping them understand and undertake the
challenges of both career and family. 16 sessions
beginning Sept. 10th.
For Women ONLY
Discovering His Passion - A
purpose that
you would die for would certainly be named your passion. We will discover the
passion of God, the Father, which led Him to sacrifice His only Son. We will
look through the eyes of His Son, driven by the same passion, willing to be
obedient, even unto death. 6
sessions Sept.
10th -
Oct. 5th.
Victoriously
Frazzled - Victoriously
Frazzled will help any
worn out, burned out, and stressed out woman understand the Spirit God
has given her. The goal is to lead women into the presence of God—right in the
midst of their “frazzledness.” By doing so, women will gradually pull back
from confusion and doubt, from fear and self, and allow God’s Spirit to have
His way in their lives. 6
sessions Oct. 22nd - Dec. 3rd.

CHOIR NOTES
Merry Christmas - I realize that those words come as a shock to all of us at the
first of September, that is, unless you’re one of those “smart shoppers”
who does a little shopping throughout the year.
However, before long, the yuletide season will be upon us.
In order to be ready for our church’s Christmas celebration, our adult
choir has already begun working on this year’s musical, which is entitled Forever
Gloria.
It is a beautiful worship musical, which I believe anyone would enjoy
learning.
So this is your
invitation to join us on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 8:00 p.m. to
begin preparing this presentation.
If you cannot sing with us on a regular basis but are available to sing
at Christmas, come on.
We’d love to have you join us.
Several adults have already done so.
We even have some youth who are making the commitment to participate.
You don’t have to be an excellent singer; we only “require” a
willing spirit, dedicated to serving the Lord.
HELP!!
At this writing, we have another urgent need that perhaps you can fill.
We are looking for someone to lead the children’s music portion of the
Sunday evening activities.
Beverly is using some exciting new curriculum for Bible study, which
involves games and various fun activities.
We want the music portion of the time to be fun also, so the kids can
have fun music experiences.
If you are interested in helping meet this need, please contact me as
soon as possible.
This activity begins on September 10.

YOUTH

I
was reading the other day about Max Q. If
you’ve never worked for NASA then you probably don’t know what that is, or,
at least I didn’t. As a space
shuttle takes off it quickly accelerates to supersonic speed and somewhere
between 25,000 to 35,000 feet it reaches what is known as “maximum dynamic
pressure”-“Max Q” for short. Max
Q is the time in the flight where the pressure on the vehicle is at its highest
intensity. It is at this point that it is most critical for all aspects
of the shuttle’s structure be sound. One
minor problem and the result could be that of the Columbia in 2003.
That February 1st morning, as Columbia was re-entering the earth’s atmosphere on its way
to its destination in Florida, we were shocked to see as pieces fell and rained
over Texas. It was a tragic event
that won’t likely be forgotten any time soon. As I think about the pressures
that our youth have on them in their daily lives, I wonder if they are going
through these extremely stressful times in their lives with a faulty structure.
What will it take to have them cave in to the pressures they are being
submitted to every day at their schools? When
the time comes for them to muscle up or hunker down, what response would you say
they would have? Are they standing
firm? If they are, will they be
able to share that unwavering solidity with their peers?
As Christians, Satan is constantly attacking us with the pressures of our
culture. What response would you
say you have? When you go through
your own Max Q, are you withstanding the pressure?
Though I feel like I’m still getting settled in and trying to remember
names of people, my goal is simple when it comes to our youth ministry.
I want to see that when our students finish their time here at Calallen
Baptist they are people of influence within their peer groups.
They need to be influencers while at the same time resistant to the
influence of the evil one. We will
begin learning about the seven things that every teenager needs to know in a
couple of weeks. We begin on
September 6th with Authentic Faith…what it is and isn’t.
Please keep us in prayer as we dive into these important lessons. Thank
you for your ongoing support of our young people. Troy

What
are the core values of our church?
Clarifying our core values is important because what we value most
receives the greatest portion of our attention, time, energy, and money.
The
Book of Acts records the core values of the Jerusalem church: They
devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and to fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and to prayer…
they gave to anyone as he had need… continued to meet in the temple…
broke bread in their homes and ate together… (Acts 2:42-47, NIV). In
our Key Leadership Summit, we identified what our congregation values most: We
value a personal relationship with God.
We value God’s word.
We value discipleship that leads to Christian maturity.
We value lost people and others in need.
We value Christian togetherness.
We value genuine worship.
We value staff. Recognizing
our values led to a reaffirmation of our G.R.A.C.E. mission statement, and a
commitment to develop goals and action plans to help CBC achieve our major
objectives: God's
family UNITING to, Reach others in NEED, Actively MATURING in God's Spirit,
Committed to SHARING Christ, and EXALTING the name of Jesus. By
fulfilling these major objectives we too will hear: And
the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved (Acts 2:47).
