CHOIR NOTES
What a wonderful time we have had with David Crain. Thanks to all of you who helped in any way. I especially want to say thanks to Karen Norskow for working diligently with David to prepare slides for us to sing by. Thanks also to Steven Floyd and Elmer Jones for helping with all the aspects of the sound reproductions. And last but not least - thanks to the choir for your faithfulness in singing for the services. I truly appreciate each and everyone of you! (And wasn’t the Youth Praise Band great!)

Easter will be here before you know it. Adult choir members, we will be starting Easter music on March 7th. I’m counting on all of you to be there.

EDUCATION MINISTRY
Discipleship is what Bible study is about, and as such that makes our Bible study leaders some of the most important leaders in the church.  As Ephesians 4:12-13 reminds us, preaching and teaching exist “for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to unity of the faith and to the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure and stature of the fullness of Christ.” (NKJV)
If CBC’s education ministry is to glorify God and be a part of His great commission,  I need your input regarding the direction of the education ministry.  Through the teacher’s meetings you will have opportunities to strengthen your skills and abilities in order to fulfill your calling as a Sunday School teacher.  Therefore, I would like all adult Bible study leaders to plan to attend the February Bible Study Leaders meeting.  It will be a lunch meeting following church, on Sunday, February 18, 2007.
Last but not least, if there is anyone interested in being a part of the education ministry of CBC, I would like to invite you to come to this meeting, or to just give me a call so that we can find your place of service.    See you all on the 18th!    Christ’s love,    Carol Lindquist, Minister of Education

SUNDAY NIGHT LIFE
For Men & Women

The Sychar Connection
-
During this three week study Pastor Jack will guide us through John chapter 4 and the infamous "woman at the well" dialogue with Christ. John paints for us through his words the often forgotten humanity of Christ, as he speaks of Jesus being weary, thirsty and hungry. It is here that we discover the Sychar Connection of Jesus with all humanity. Beginning February 11,  sanctuary, 6:00-7:00 p.m. Led by Pastor Jack Willoughby

Maturity 201 -
This class is the second of CBCs four basic classes.  Since these classes build on each other, you must first attend Discovering Church Membership #101 before taking this class. We will focus on the Four Basic Habits every Christian needs to develop in order to grow to spiritual maturity.  This class will ... ·  Equip you with the skills you need to begin  these habits ·  Explain the tools you need to continue these habits.  3 sessions beg. Mar. 4, 2007 Led by Carol Lindquist
For Men ONLY
Authentic Manhood...Winning at Work & Home -
Challenging men to step   forward, meet their   responsibilities, and   establish their manhood,   Authentic Manhood,   Winning at Work & Home   focuses on the chief responsibilities men have--as husbands, fathers, and breadwinners. The study presents 2 mirrors to help men evaluate how they are doing in life: the  mirror of work and career, and the mirror of home and family. Participants will evaluate chief responsibilities of how a man successfully relates to a woman and how a man rightly engages in his work. Here is a plan for leading men to win in life by helping them understand and undertake the challenges of both career and family. 7 Sessions beginning January 7, 2007 Led by Scott Vaughan
For Women ONLY

Fruit of the Spirit - This innovative study combines thought-provoking devotions on the Fruits of the Spirit with scrapbook activities.  As found in Galatians 5:23, participants will focus on love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  The wondrous ways God is growing his children toward maturity are dramatically revealed!  It's Bible study that's fun, fulfilling, and faith-building!  Each lesson and activity fosters deeper relationships with God (and others in the group) and inspires continual growth!  Lessons, templates and sample pages are all included! Cost—$20.00—pre-order book by Feb. 18th 10 sessions beg. March 11, 2007 Led by Terri Jones

Short-Term Missions with a Long-Term Impact
There is more to missions than just going.  Hopefully mission trips are more than just ten-day long vacations in the mountains of Peru.  Or maybe a two-week vacation in Madrid, Spain.  I mention these two places because I went to both places on short-term mission trips, and while they were both neat places to go and see, there was so much more to it than that.  Here are a few things that I have learned in my own mission experiences:

1. God doesn’t need much time.  By saying this I mean that God can actually use a person in only a week’s time.  I learned this in Spain when my team was getting ready to leave.  We had a final meeting where we all sat down and gave the missionaries who were called there permanently over two hundred new contacts that we had made that week.  We were blown away by what God had done through us in such a short period of time.
2. Everyone can go.  I had an instance a couple of years ago where a team from my church was going to Jamaica for a two-week mission trip.  Because of my work schedule, I thought there was no way that I would be able to go.  That is, until I discovered this truth.  I could go through another person by supporting them.  One of my students at the time was praying about going on the trip, but was concerned about being able to raise the money.  So I encouraged her to give God a chance to provide.  And one of the ways He provided was through me.  In ways, I had more satisfaction in helping another go than if I had gone myself.
3. There is a reason for going.  We go because we want people to have the same opportunity that we have had to know the Savior.  You see, we were created to worship a wonderful God and if by going we give others a chance to do just that, we should need no other justification.  I can’t wait to see some of those Peruvians standing beside me in Glory someday.  And maybe God will have used me to touch their hearts in some way that helped introduce them to the Lord.  So, I guess the reason for going is a simple one, to give glory to God.  Those whom the Lord uses us to impact will be singing much like the angels did in Revelation 7:12 when they said:
“Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”

Cinco de Febrero
Last year, our church adopted the village of Cinco de Febrero in the state of Durango, Mexico.  Our next mission trip is planned for July 1st through the 7th, 2007.  March has been slated as ‘get us focused on the mission trip’ month.  We’ll kick things off with a mission celebration Sunday morning on the 4th
Certainly, it is a great honor for CBC to be a part of something so significant and wonderful.  The lives of those who participate in this summer’s mission experience will be changed forever.  I am personally very excited at the prospects of my own participation. Last year’s small ‘scouting’ group, who went to Durango to see the mission field firsthand, piqued my interest.  They came back with wonderful stories, and challenged our church to prayerfully consider adopting the village for continued and extensive missionary efforts. As the mission team shared testimonies and showed pictures of the area I was captured.  The faces of the people and desire to share the good news of Jesus with them thrilled my heart. Did you know that one of the major celebrities of Durango was the legendry John Wayne?  He owned a studio and filmed many of his westerns in the area.  Looks cool. God doesn’t want us to enter the village of Cinco de Febrero with the persona of the Duke.  Strong, independent, western clothed, ten-gallon hat wearing, and spurs clanging cowboy-type with smoking Bible in hand.  God is not sending us to save the village, but to center ourselves in His perfect will.  It may very well be that the missionary endeavor does us more good than them. Remember Paul’s vision of the man from Macedonia?  Pray about your participation in Cinco de Febrero.  Maybe God will place his hand upon your heart and say, “Go, ye therefore…”  After the 5th of February, Pastor Jack
