CHOIR NOTES
Why do we come together to worship?  Because it’s a habit?  Because we’re made to come?  Because it’s a place to see our friends?  Because there’s nothing good on television?  Or because we desire and anticipate a fresh encounter with the living God?
I’m sure you’ve heard the joke about the man who was arguing with his wife about not wanting to get up and go to church on a particular Sunday.  Her response to him was, ”You have to go! You’re the pastor!”  I dare say most of us, from time to time, have less-than-perfect reasons for attending church.
Perhaps we’re tired, don’t feel well, are concerned about other things, or have just had a quarrel with our spouse and/or children (my personal “favorite”).

But imagine how our services would look and feel if each of us came with the full awareness that God was present and ready to talk
to and hear from us.  Our singing, the sermon, and every other aspect of the service would not be “routine” but would be exciting expressions of love and adoration to our God and Savior, and opportunities to hear Him speak to our hearts.

Such awareness would make a difference in how we approach our worship time together.  (1) As important as fellowship is, visiting with friends would not be our primary focus.  (2) We would want to lift our voices in worship and praise, rather than remain silent during the singing.  (3) When the sermon was shared, we would not “zone out,” but would listen intently for God’s message to us.  (4) And, because what we feel in our hearts usually spills out onto our faces, I believe our faces would look more like we just made the winning touchdown, and less like we lost the game.

Lord, please forgive me for the times I merely “show up” for church, unprepared to meet with You.  Help me to keep my focus on You, so that I may hear Your voice.  Help me be a worshipper, not merely a leader.  Renew my heart, so that I may come into Your “presence with singing” and into Your “courts with praise,” that I might worship You “in spirit and in truth.”    Amen.
    Let’s come together to worship
expectantly this Sunday!
JOIN ME IN PRAYER:
I am praying that the Lord will provide us (1)  an experienced bass guitar player to join our praise team in leading worship, and (2)  an energetic person, who enjoys working with children, to lead out in a children’s music time during Sunday School.  If you are aware of someone who could help, or if the Lord lays one of these ministry opportunities on your heart, please contact me @ RHamilton@CalallenBaptist.org.

Blooming Beauties
This year’s crop of Spring flowers was absolutely spectacular.  All the various Easter pastels painted by the hand of God.  How could anyone see such grandeur and not be moved to a spirit of worship and thanksgiving?

I have always heard, “April showers bring May flowers.”  While the arrival of said flowers may not be the ‘Ode to Joy’ for allergy-ridden folk, let none of us fail to recognize that the appearance of May flowers signals the arrival of something NEW.  The old cold dark days of Winter have given way to the birth of new hopes, new dreams, and new possibilities.

Here’s a word of challenge.  Let’s mark May 1st as a ‘New Beginning Day’ for our lives.  By participating one might seek a new perspective or outlook.  On that day we would renew our commitment to God and thereby seek his invigorating life to course through our lives.  We would anticipate a revival in us like sunlight on an open field urging the beauty underneath the surface to break forth.  Everything around us would change.  We would become blooming beauties for God’s flower garden.  Everything about us would glorify the Maker of heaven and earth.  Our beauty would only be matched by the sensational perfumed aroma, transforming our surrounding
significantly.

So let’s accept the May 1st challenge.  In doing so, surely Love, Joy, and Hope would spring up all around us and positively affect our
closest relationships, attitude toward life, and experience in worship.
Let’s do it.  Let’s all become ‘blooming beauties’ on May 1st. One Beauty to Another, Pastor Jack
