OUR HISTORY

Calallen Baptist Church (CBC) was established on July 4th, 1874, with eleven members. The membership raised $862.75 for the first building on land that was donated in Nuecestown. The contractor donated his time and labor because the church was short on money. The final payment to the carpenter was one horse, valued at $50.00, and one pistol, valued at $15.00, which were donated by the church members.

Part of our present property was donated by Calvin Allen, founder of Calallen. There have been three different sanctuaries built at this location.

Although CBC is over 100 years old, we are anything but old or out of date. We are a VIBRANT and LIVELY church fellowship. For more than a century of time, CBC has impacted literally thousands of lives for the kingdom of God and will continue to do so by seeking innovative and cutting edge ways to reach, equip, and minister to others. Our goal has always been to present the timeless MESSAGE of Christ by constantly changing and adapting our METHODS in order to be RELEVANT for today.

OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

The basis for our beliefs is the Holy Bible as the inspired word of God. CBC subscribes to the doctrinal statement of "The Baptist Faith and Message" as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1963.

The Bible

  • We believe that the bible is the Word of God, divinely inspired; that it contains no errors in the original manuscripts and preserved by God for us; that is authoritative for this church and each of us for every age.

God

  • We believe that god exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These are one God.
  • We believe God created the universe by His power and word.
  • We beliee that God is all knowing, all-powerful and ever present.
Jesus
  • We believe Jesus Christ was sent by God the Father into the world to save sinners.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ was virgin-born, sinless in life and mighty in words and deeds.
  • We believe Jesus was both God and man, that He was crucified for our sins, and was bodily raised from the dead. He then ascended to His Father's side where He is head of the church and intercedes for believers.
  • We believe Jesus Christ is coming again personally, visibly, and bodily to reign as Lord.
Holy Spirit
  • We believe the Holy Spirit is a person, is God, and has all the divine characteristics. He indwells all believers, baptizes and seals them at the moment of salvation. He fills them in response to confession of sin and surrender to Him.
Salvation
  • We believe that Jesus, through His death on the cross, provided salvation for all. However, to receive salvation, one must repent of sin and trust Jesus Christ alone. The true believer is eternally secure and cannot lose his salvation. He may, however, lose his joy by sinning and bring the loving discipline of the Father upon himself.
  • All who have received Christ will, at death, depart to be with Christ in their spirits and at Christ's return, receive a new body that will be like His glorious body.
The Church
  • We believe a New Testament church is a local body of baptized believers who have agreed together to worship Jesus Christ, edify the believers, evangelize the lost, and minister to others.
  • The church has two ordinances: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the new life we have in Him. The Lord's Supper is a reminder of Christ's death and anticipates His second coming.

Our Affiliation in Giving to Missions

Calallen Baptist Church participates in the largest missionary organization in the world. Through the Southern Baptist Convention "cooperative program" we help support over 7,500 missionaries in 100 plus countries. We are a member of the family of churches in the SBC, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Corpus Christi Baptist Association. We choose to affiliate with these groups, because of their missions emphasis. We believe it is important to cooperate and fellowship with other churches for our benefit and to benefit them. Our church, however, is self-governed and determines its own affairs. There is no denominational control or hierarchy that makes decisions for us.

Salvation through Christ
A Matter of F.A.I.T.H.

¨ F  - FORGIVENESS. Everyone has sinned and needs God’s forgiveness. Romans 3:23 God’s forgiveness is found only through Jesus. Ephesians 1:7

¨ A - AVAILABLE. God’s forgiveness is available for all. John 3:16 Forgiveness is available but is not automatic. Matthew 7:21

¨ I - IMPOSSIBLE. According to the Bible, it is impossible to get to heaven on our own. Ephesians 2:8-9

¨ T -TURN. Turn means to repent. Turn away from sin and self. Luke 13:3 Turn to Jesus alone as your Savior and Lord. John 14:6 & Romans 10:9-10

¨ H - HEAVEN. Heaven is a place where we will live with God forever. John 14:3 Eternal life begins now with Jesus. John 10:10

How can a person have forgiveness, eternal life and heaven? By trusting in Christ and asking Him for forgiveness.
